My Yoga Journey
I have been practicing yoga for around 20 years. I have been blessed to discover that becoming a parent has enhanced and deepened my practice of yoga.
I became Mum to a beautiful baby girl in 2010. She inspired me to train as a Birthlight baby yoga and SMART toddler yoga teacher, and brought a new passion for all things pregnancy, birth and baby! I had my second baby, a little boy, in December 2011. I returned to teaching when he was 7 weeks old so I was on the journey of baby-raising together with the Mums in my classes! I met so many wonderful people, both tiny and grown up, whilst teaching and massaging in Manchester, over three years i started to see siblings pass through my classes, whole families coming back for toddler yoga and mums return for pregnancy massage the second time around. This was particularly special as my own children were at the same age at this time.
In June 2013, I moved to Devon, where I grew up, with my Tots. I restarted my business here as well as rebuilding our family life in this beautiful part of the world.
I am also a qualified Youth and Community Worker, and for the 10 years prior to having my second baby, I was working with young people with disabilities and their families. I love that some of these skills are transferred over to my current work.
I was working at a residential unit for adults with autism in 1998, when I first came across Reiki. One of my colleagues was using it on the residents, and I was impressed with how this calmed down a very highly strung, anxious man who had Asperger’s Syndrome. We got talking and he introduced me to his Reiki Master, Christine, who trained me in Levels 1 & 2. I have also trained with Colin Powell in Manchester.
I took a career break from my busy youth work job in 2005 and trained in Swedish and Indian Head massage, before taking time out to travel to India.
My interest in all things baby led me to train as a specialist pregnancy and labour massage therapist.
In June 2014, I trained with Birthlight to teach ‘Baby nurture’. After massaging my own babies, this was a very special course for me, enabling me to teach a separate class to mums and babies in the very early weeks, combining massage and yoga.
In October 2015, I trained with Teenyoga (www.teenyoga.co.uk) to teach yoga to young people aged 13-18. This brought together my background in youth work and yoga.
I became the tutor for the course in Indian Head Massage at the School of Bodywork in Exeter. This was a diploma course in Nov 2015, then changing to a certificate course in Feb 2017. I have taught 20 therapists Indian Head Massage.
I trained with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli through Yogacampus in April 2016 to teach pregnancy yoga. I have developed from my own experiences as well as from Uma, a passion for yoga as a transformative practice for pregnant and postnatal women . I love teaching it!
In 2017, I started my 300 hour yoga teacher training diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga, taught by Tara Fraser. This finishes in December 2018.
In June 2018 I completed Part 1 of the Birthlight Well Woman yoga training with Francoise Freedman.
